Lifestyle is often the reason it’s difficult to lose weight. You’ve gotten used to doing things a certain way, but they aren’t necessarily good for your health and weight loss efforts. The following are four small changes you can make that will help you to begin losing weight.
1. Ditch after Dinner Desert
There’s nothing wrong with enjoying dessert now and then, but it’s not something you should have every night. Dessert should be considered a treat. This doesn’t mean you can’t have an after dinner sweet. Instead of having cake, cookies, or ice cream try a fruit salad with some yogurt. By making this small switch your will still enjoy something sweet, but with far fewer calories, if your habit is to eat dessert every night after dinner, it’s time to replace dessert with something healthier. This change will help you in your weight loss efforts.
2. Sleep Earlier
Sleep is helpful when it comes to weight loss. The less you sleep the more chances you have to indulge in late night snacking. Late night snacking is almost always unhealthy foods that you’d probably rather avoid if you are looking to lose weight. Sleeping less than seven hours also contributes to weight gain and makes it more difficult to shed those pounds.
3. Drink Water Before Every Meal
Drinking water is not only important for staying hydrated, but it also plays a role in helping you lose weight. If you drink a glass or two of water before eating every meal and snack, you will consume less calories throughout the day leading to healthy weight loss. This can be especially helpful if you are not aware of proper portions or enjoy going back for seconds or thirds. Before you head to the fridge because you think you’re hungry, drink some water. Many times when you think you’re hungry, you are actually thirsty.
4. Walk 30 minutes a day
Even if you’re not an athlete or don’t make exercise a part of your regular life, walking is an easy and low-impact exercise you can do that will help you to lose weight. Walking daily will increase your metabolism and help you to burn more calories. If you find walking to be boring, you can always challenge yourself to walk a longer distance in those 30 minutes or walk more minutes. If having company on your walks makes them less boring, you can walk with friends and try different hiking trails together. A change in diet is good, but in order to lose weight you also need to move your body and walking is a great start.
If you want to lose weight, but don’t know where to begin, start by making little changes. By making small changes to your lifestyle you can begin your weight loss journey.
