How do you know it’s a fad? The American Dietetic Association says to stay away from diets that promise:
Rapid weight loss. Healthy plans aim for no more than a pound per week; losing more means you’re losing muscle, bone and water.
Unlimited quantities or absolute limitations for any food. Avoid any diet that restricts a whole food group, such as carbohydrates, or says you can eat as much as you want of any one thing, such as grapefruit.
Specific food combinations. There’s no proof that combining certain foods will burn fat faster or produce toxins.
No need to exercise. Physical activity is essential for healthy weight management.
